"To make the transition to a life-sustaining society, we must retrieve that ancestral capacity — in other words, act like ancestors. We need to attune to longer, ecological rhythms and nourish a strong, felt connection with past and future generations. . . . We can learn again to drink at deeper wells".
—Joanna Macy, Coming Back to Life

Ancestral Soulwork is a path of radical remembrance and soul-rooted becoming—an invitation to honor the dialogue between soul and lineage, human and more-than-human. It recognizes that soul does not grow in isolation; our ancestors live within us, shaping our dreams, wounds, and gifts. This work turns toward what has been forgotten or unlived, meeting inherited grief and buried wisdom through embodiment, creativity, and deep listening.

For many disconnected from ancestral memory and Earth-based belonging, this path offers a return to rootedness. The body becomes a bridge, holding and releasing ancestral memory as it rises to be felt and integrated.

Rather than dividing ancestors into good or bad, this work invites relationship with lineage in all its complexity—honoring gifts, acknowledging harm, and cultivating reverence and reciprocity. Woven through it is the recognition of a primal “first wound,” not as error but as a threshold for transformation and reconnection.

In a time of global unraveling, Ancestral Soulwork offers grounding, continuity, and guidance. While not a replacement for trauma therapy, it provides sacred space for grief and healing through ritual, symbol, and imagination.

This work especially supports those of Western or European descent in reconnecting with their own lineages—taking responsibility, tending what is theirs, and contributing to the wider restoration between humans, ancestors, and the Earth.

NOTE to Doug: I also want to say something here about how Ancestral~Soulwork does not claim to address the specific wounds of colonization, enslavement, systemic racism, or the traumas carried by marginalized peoples………. That work being better done culturally rooted peoples..? etc
